What we collect, and what we don't.

This page sets out what data we collect from people who visit the site or subscribe to the newsletter, what we do with it, and what we don't do with it. Plain English. Last reviewed: April 2026.

What we collect

We collect two categories of data:

  • Site analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to count page views, see which pages readers find useful, and understand referral sources. GA4 sets cookies in your browser and assigns a pseudonymous identifier so it can tell whether a visit is a returning visit. We do not link this data to other sites you visit, do not run advertising on it, and do not share it with third parties beyond Google's analytics infrastructure.
  • Newsletter subscriptions. When you subscribe, we collect your email address and the date you subscribed. The subscriber list is managed by MailMint Pro, a self-hosted plugin running on our own WordPress install — your email isn't sent to a third-party newsletter service. We use double opt-in, so a confirmation email is sent before you're added to the list.

What we don't collect

  • We don't use Facebook Pixel, retargeting pixels, or any other advertising-side tracking.
  • We don't use cookies for advertising purposes.
  • We don't sell, rent, share, or hand over your email address to anyone, for any reason.
  • We don't build a profile of you for advertising.

Cookies

The site sets a small number of cookies via Google Analytics 4 (typically _ga and _ga_<ID>) that let GA4 distinguish a returning visit from a new one. These are measurement cookies, not advertising cookies — they do not follow you to other sites and we do not use them to build an advertising profile. Cloudflare may also set anti-abuse cookies that are essential for the site to function.

You can disable analytics cookies via your browser's settings, by using a browser extension that blocks Google Analytics, or by enabling Do Not Track (which GA4 does respect when configured at the browser level).

Your rights

If you're a newsletter subscriber, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email. Doing so removes your email from our list permanently.

If you'd like a copy of any data we hold about you, or you'd like us to delete it, email [email protected] and we'll handle the request within 30 days.

Children

The site is not intended for use by people under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone in that age group.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in any substantive way, we'll note the change at the top of this page and date it. The most recent review is shown above.
